Ms. Sev Aeng is 39 years old. She has four children; some are still in school and some work in a chinese factory, making shoes. They live in Pongro Village, Sdeng Chey Commune, Choeung Prey District, Kampong Cham.
Sev Aeng's husband passed away two years ago, suffering from HIV/AIDS. He was a policeman and although he loved Sev Aeng and his family, he made one mistake and as a result was infected with the disease. Because of this, Sev Aeng is also now living with HIV/AIDS.
iBecause of the disease, villagers discriminated against Sev Aeng and she found things very difficult. She spoke to the Village Chief but this did not help and she felt very helpless. She struggled to feed her family and had to sell land and belongings for medical care.
NAS Home Based Care project supported Sev Aeng, signposting her to health care providers and even providing counselling. She looked forward to their monthly meeting where they also worked with the villagers, to reduce discrimination and increase understanding of the situation. This care and support helps Sev Aeng to be strong and gives her hope for the future.
She has even been given a job, and this way can support her children so that they can go to school. Sev Aeng said "I am so grateful for the help of NAS. The support has really turned my life around. I hope that many more people living with HIV/AIDS will be able to benefit from the same care.".
